Tarek, Lauren & Sydney

When Tarek and I initially started doing our research regarding puppy adoptions we quickly became discouraged about the process. Many rescues and adoption agencies felt so cooperate and competitive that we put our search on hold. When a friend recommended Megan Weber and Underdogs Animal Rescue we immediately felt comfortable with the adoption process and the one-on-one attention our puppy search received from the Underdogs staff. And when Megan started sending pictures of an adorable three month old fluff ball, we were doomed to become puppy parents that very day. The Underdogs team helped us find the perfect pup to fit seamlessly into our lives. Sydney hikes, runs with our mountain bikes, loves sleeping in our tiny two person tent with us and overall fits perfectly into the Colorado family package! We have been so lucky to find a dog that makes every day a little better, even if she is chewing on any bra she can get her paws on. We have Underdogs Animal Rescue to thank for helping us make our family a little larger, but much more complete.

A million thank you’s to the wonderful staff at Underdogs Animal Rescue!

Jenn & Moonoi

I first saw Moonoi (Moon) from photos that Mo (of Underdog Rescue) had shared of a little dog from Thailand looking for a home.  There was one photo that stuck in my mind of this little cutie in her bandana. Oh! Such sweetness and pride!  I thought about her for three weeks after seeing that photo.  I would wake up and think of her (“I hope you have a good day today, Moonoi and get extra love and treats and snuggles”) and I would think of her before bed (“Good nite little Moon. I hope you are safe and happy and warm wherever you are.”) Seriously.

After three weeks of this, I finally decided that I would reach out to Mo to see if Moonoi was still up for adoption. Lucky for me, she still was waiting for a home.  Mo, Megan and Sandra worked with me to understand the mission of Underdogs and the unique situation of adopting a dog from Thailand.  They shared their time and passion for the organization and were open and honest about letting me know what the history of some of the dogs are and what I might expect. Their love and care for the dogs and their well-being and their giant hearts were always so present. How could I not feel good about being a part of supporting Underdogs?  I began the process of adopting Moonoi and received a phone call one evening in November that I could adopt Moon!

Having Moon in my life has been a blessing.  She quickly found her place at home and grew from a shy and somewhat insecure girl, to a happy, playful and confident girl. She gained 8 pounds to a nice and healthy weight!  I was told that Moon spent most of her days hiding in a concrete pipe.  While this was so heartbreaking to imagine, it makes my heart feel so full now to watch her run through the grasses and go for hikes, to sunbathe on her own cozy chair like the regal girl she is and to have a basket full of toys to play with and a warm safe place to call home every day.  She is a loving and intuitive dog that lives to sit close and snuggle and give kisses.

Two months before I adopted Moon, my best friend Tim was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer.  Tim LOVES dogs and we often talked about how he would love to have a dog, but could not commit to one knowing the instability of his future.  Moon and I would spend several days a week with Tim over the last nine months and Moon and Tim bonded immediately.  Moon was always so gentle with Tim and would sit next to him and rest her head in his lap while he pet her and they would fall asleep and nap together.  Tim passed away two months ago, but I love and will cherish the memories of Tim and Moon together, just a boy and his dog. They are both angels.

So, thank you to everyone involved with Underdogs from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing and for finding little Moonoi (which means “little piglet” in Thai, by the way!!) and bringing her here. My life is exponentially more rich by having her a part of it – her silly-goofy-sweet-intelligent-gentle-stubborn spirit brings such joy to anyone who meets her.

Xxoxo,
Jenn

THE RICHARDS FAMILY

Our family of five had two beautiful Lhasa ladies in our family for 13 & 15 years. When they crossed the rainbow bridge we waited awhile because we weren’t ready to replace them just yet. But then about 2.5 years ago, my brother-who had adopted his pittie from Megan-sent me a picture of ‘Abby’-a  black Cane Corso girl that was completely different from our Lhasas. But there was something in her eyes that wouldn’t let us ignore her. We met her later that day and she immediately won our hearts. Within the week she was ours and was incredibly shy at first. But as time passed, she came to realize we were her people and we can’t imagine our home without Tinkerbell-‘Tink’ for short-now.

And then came Piper…Megan posted a photo of her on Facebook and we fell quickly in love. The little lowrider looked like she might be just the thing our shy Tink needed. We went to meet her in Megan’s backyard and our sons wouldn’t leave without us agreeing to bring her home later that week. So we brought her home for a meet and greet with Tink and it went better than we could have possibly imagined. Tink showed a playful side we had never seen and Piper the Pittie became her constant companion that day and they’ve been inseparable since.

Our family is so thankful to Underdogs for the work you do and will look to you if our girls need another friend. We believe in what you do and how you do it and will always recommend you to our friends looking to expand their family.

With gratitude,
Rebecca Richards

ELLE & ROSIE

The first time I met Rosie, I cried. She was 5 months old, energetic, and had just arrived to Denver from Kansas City. My husband and I were going to spend a few hours with her to decide if we were going to adopt her from Underdogs Animal Rescue. It took all of 10 seconds for me to decide she was joining our family after she climbed in my lap on the drive home and wouldn’t stop licking my face. Like I said, I cried the whole way home and kept asking her, “Are you going to be my dog?” Adopting Rosie was one of the best decisions my husband and I have ever made.

CAROL KEENER & ROSIE

Oh my goodness, where do I begin? Our sweet, crazy, Rosie girl joined our family just over 5 years ago. I can’t believe it because it feels like yesterday. David, the younger of my 2 sons wanted a dog of his own and our house was feeling mighty empty after our Blue Healer had gone over the Rainbow Bridge. Since Megan had helped my oldest son Travis to find his big lovable boy, Ghost, (who we all adore) our obvious choice was to go to Megan again. The video she posted online with Rosie playing with a small dog in the yard caught our eye and we had to meet them.

Of course we loved Rosie right away, but I have to admit we did have a few concerns. One was our middle aged, bossy, temperamental Chihuahua Odie, and the other was the amount of energy Miss Rosie had. Megan was so wonderful in helping us work through each of those things and I’m forever grateful because I cannot imagine our lives without our Rosie. She is a comedian and has brought so much joy and laughter into our lives. There are high fives and lots of kisses on command.

Love,
Carol Keener

Amber Muhammad & Beau

Our Beau came to us in the perfect “tail” of fate! We have always been a “dog family” and having a 4 legged hairy kid has always been a part of our lives! I knew we needed a new member to our furry family but time and the “right one” would determine our next family member. One day as I was casually browsing Facebook I noticed Meredith had posted a picture of a beautiful black (which would later be dark brown brindle and black) puppy with a white patch on his chest and a face that I knew I had to meet! Some could say it was love at first sight! I watched Meredith’s post for one day and I was certain Beau was our new baby, and BOY was I right! Meredith brought our new baby over to meet our family and I knew then for sure what my heart was telling me and that was, “This beautiful boy is your new fur baby!”

We are a big family, 5 kiddos (13,  12, 12, 3 and 5) and chaos is the name of the game! Beau came in, introduced himself to the kiddos, sniffed around, invited himself on the couch and he, too, knew our home was his new home! We all couldn’t be happier. There are so many times we have multiple children in the home (cousins and buddies) and Beau gets right in there and plays! Beau is our gentle giant and I couldn’t be prouder of him. He has world class manners (everyday at 6am he gently paws his mommy’s side of the bed to go potty), he says “thank you” after every meal (he lays his head in my lap and wags his tail), grabs his leash when he’s ready to give us all our evening exercise and keeps my 3 year old daughter company in her room until she falls asleep at night. In a nutshell Beau is the perfect puppy for our family and we couldn’t thank Underdogs enough for bringing him into our lives. He is that perfect fur baby we knew would pick us and not the other way around!
